Revival, Bentley, Lakeland, and Lee Grady

Here is a good article by Lee Grady, Editor of Charisma mag.

outbreak of Pentecostalism in history has gained so much international exposure so quickly as these meetings have.

I’m a cheerleader for the charismatic movement, so I rejoiced when I heard the news about revivalist Todd Bentley’s extended visit to Ignited Church. It was thrilling to hear the reports of miracles and to watch the crowd grow until a stadium was required to hold everyone.
“When we put bizarre behavior on the platform we imply that it is normative. Thus more strange fire is allowed to spread.”

This article is a breath of fresh air. Christians have a tendency to think they´re excused from reflecting upon what´s happening when the Holy Spirit is present - is it all spiritual or are there elements that are just human? Not being willing to take in and consider difficult questions and branding the person asking them as "religious sceptics" or as someone resisting the Holy Spirit, undermines our own integrity and that of our message.

Thank ou to everyone for the thoughtful, respectful and challenging dialog

I wonder how many people are slating Todd for being a holiness freak?
On Sunday evening he made a passionate plea for full surrender to Jesus and even said "You can't have this anointing if you're not fully surrendered".
Todd places great emphasis on holiness, wholehearted discipleship, and he regularly calls people to put their trust in Jesus. But as far as I have seen, none of the critics seem to notice these things. The most commented-on word in Todd's repertoire seems to be "Bam". OK, the word "Bam" is outside many people's comfort zone. But to claim that Todd preaches "instant gratification" is shoddy research at the very least.

I've ministered with Todd in foreign nations and in the States, and strongly object to this poorly researched article. While cautioning people to not be overly enamored with showmanship and angels is legitimate, to then go on to overtly insinuate that what's going on is strange fire (which can only mean of demonic origin) and akin to Mormonic revelation appears to be purposeful slander. Furthermore, if you held the conferences perpetually appearing in Charisma advertising to the same standard, the hype/spiritual reality ratio would be infinitely worse than the wonderful things going on in Lakeland.

Interesting article - - I was talking to my son about the "personality" of many Americans today - - instant gratification, self-centered, all that. Anyway, these teachings line up with what so many people are hungry for, yet don't want to make the effort to find in the true sense. Even the trademeark "Bam, Bam, Bam" ??? - - instant gratification. Somehow what starts out as a genuine impartation or teaching, ends up getting twisted and disguised. We are so limited in our knowledge of God's supernatural realm that it would seem to me a wise caution to confirm that it is GOD'S supernatural power at work and not the enemy just usurping the "captive audience". I also believe that this is a time for revival - - like I said, people are hungry, desperate, searching and the world is in need. With the attention of crowds of this size, it would be a shame to not follow the lead of the Holy Spirit and let a TRUE revival happen !

Beware of Strange fire...that's a provocative statement
